LEO Pharma updates pipeline The R&D pipeline at LEO Pharma has been updated following the company’s acquisition of Peplin, Inc. as well as following conclusive end results from the company’s ongoing clinical trials. Daivobet® Body Gel, previously named LEO 80185 and a cosmetically attractive topical treatment for plaque psoriasis on the body, has after conclusive results in phase III moved into pre-launch. Clinical trials of TD1414, in development for skin infections, have been discontinued due to lack of significant clinical improvement over already marketed products, namely Fucidin®. PEP005, a novel compound under development for the treatment of actinic keratosis, has joined the pipeline in phase III following LEO Pharma’s acquisition og Peplin, Inc. Phase III results are expected early 2010 and sales in 2012/2013. PEP005 is also in clinical trials for the treatment of skin cancer, albeit in phase II LEO27847, a compound under development in nephrology, has moved from pre-clinical to phase I. The LEO Pharma pipeline has previously been characterised as one of the most promising in dermatology - even naming it world class. “On the other hand, we know that pharmaceutical research and development is an unsure business and that which looks good and promising today, may be without promise tomorrow,” said Lars Olsen, Executive Vice President, R&D at LEO Pharma. “We do believe, though, that the addition of the two PEP005 significantly improves the strength of our pipeline.
